Dragons at the Docks –
Our version of participating in Game of Thrones

DECEMBER 2019
The CSR team and the Sports committee linked up this August to send a team of warriors off to Dragons at the Docks 2019. The brave team of 11 project managers and quantity surveyors donned their green tee-shirts and war paint, and they marched down to the city docklands like Daenerys Targaryen reborn with a vengeance.
This year, Dragons At The Dock saw over 1000 competitors in 72 teams battle it out across 6 industry sectors for the top prize; and while we didn’t win the race (this year!), we left feeling like winners. DATD is an amazing fundraiser for a very worthy charity. This year it managed to raise over €350,000 for Dublin Simon Community.
Sam McGuinness, CEO of Dublin Simon Community said, “The funds raised from Dragons at the Docks will support the acquisition of two apartments as part of the Simon Capital Development Fund, helping more people move to a permanent safe place to call home; making a vital difference to those who have been devastated by the homeless crisis. Each individual will not only have a place to call home but will receive vital wraparound supports such as counselling, education and employability, independent living skills and health and wellbeing to ensure they never return to homelessness and are able to rebuild their lives with their community of support around them.“
Since its inception three years ago, the event has raised more than €893,000, with 75 per cent of the funds going to the Dublin Simon Community, and the balance distributed to local charities within the Grand Canal Dock area. More than €12,000 of the funds raised this year came from the “Dunk Your Boss” event, in which the chief executives of a number of sponsors received a soaking.
I think it would be safe to say approximately €11,995 of that figure came from the MMCD Project Management team trying to dunk our PM Director Michael Gallagher at the event.
A great event and we can’t wait to partake again next year.
