1000km cycle around Ireland

After the overwhelming support received in 2020 and 2021 for our annual Charity Cycle in aid Women’s Aid and ISPCC‘s Childline, we were proud to get back on the bikes to fundraise for these charities again this year.

On November the 17th, a 45 strong team of cyclists from Mitchell McDermott completed a (virtual) 1,000km route around Ireland at Raw Gym Donnybrook to support these charities in their work helping women and children across Ireland experiencing abuse and other adversities.

Our target was to raise €25,000, and this year Mitchell McDermott matched all donations so the total raised was a whopping €50,130.

We are immensely proud to say we have raised over €100,000 for our chosen charities over the last 3 years.

Last year we were delighted to receive the thank you messages below from Sarah Benson, CEO of Women’s Aid, and John Church, ISPCC Childline Chief Executive. Thank you to both charities for the incredible work you do, which we are proud to support.

“We are thrilled to receive such a generous donation from Mitchell McDermott and its supporters to help with our vital work with women and families experiencing domestic abuse. Covid-19 has shone a further light on the crisis of domestic violence in homes across Ireland. As we all retreated to our homes for safety, it became increasingly clear that home is not a safe place for everyone. Trapped with abusers and denied outlets that may have offered them support and respite in the face of abuse before, women came up with ingenious ways to get in touch with us. Women called us from their car, from the garden shed, from the bathroom with the shower running. Our frontline services have been stretched to the limit and this donation means that we are now able to increase cover on the 24hr National Freephone Helpline 1800341900 now and in 2021 to maximise our availability to callers seeking support day or night. Thank you to everyone who took part and supported the Charity Cycle 2020.”
